The lack of sleep weighed heavily on Mark Cohen. While elated to be a father, he’d not slept more than two hours in the last three days.
“Mark, call in and get some sleep. You look exhausted,” said his wife Suzy.
“I am, but we need the money.”
While driving down Main Street, his eyes became too heavy and he drifted off. The sounds of a thump and branches being crushed startled him awake.
“Oh crap.” Mark slammed on the brakes and swerved back on the road.
He pulled into the first parking space available to survey the damage.
This is me from last week apart from not having a baby…
We’ve all been there at one point or another. Thanks
Ouch. Hope it’s not too bad! Sounds like his wife was right (as usual).
Guys in general like to think we are invinicble. It may not be true, but it doesn’t stop us.
New parents are probably the most sleep deprived on the planet. Nice take on the prompt!
Thanks, the picture just screamed sleep deprived.
Dear Cole,
Yep. Been there, done that. I’m glad Mark was still alive to pull over and survey the damage.
Shalom,
Rochelle
The second I saw the leaves coming from the grill, I thought he needed sleep.
very realistic story…the struggle to keep up financially, a growing family. thankfully no fatalities from his sleep deprivation accident. i enjoyed your story.
I am glad you enjoyed it. Being a new dad can be very exhausting.
i agree with Sun, very realistic tale. i guess he should’ve listened to his wife 🙂 but i’m glad he’s ok
The thought of being broke and rested isn’t a great motivator.
At least he only took out a tree. I hope he takes note and starts listening to Suzy about needing that rest.
Thanks, but it’s not like were stubborn or anything. I’m sure he’ll heed the warning.
Dear Cole, Good story and all of us have been there – sleepy and having to drive. My husband and I always take turns, but once when we were driving from Wisconsin to Arkansas – I started driving before the sun went down and was still driving when the sun came up. I let him sleep. Well, made it! Nan 🙂
Driving all night is hard. Once I did the NY to Florida drive in 19 straight hours. Never want to do it again.
Cole, Good story, and very realistic. My mom said my dad used to sleep with his eyes open and ran into a bridge support once. I almost ran into a lake. Driving sleepy can be deadly. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
Ouch, he’s luck he survived.
